Water is the source of life, and for the city of Vodice it is existence itself. Our city was built on this site just because of the water. It is named after the abundance of its sources. Water means life for all of us, and for Vodice it means wealth, too. In the 17th century ships from Zadar were coming and buying our vital fluid and it was so until the end of the 19th century!
Therefore, although the city of Vodice celebrates St. Jelina in May as its feast day, International Water Day is always marked ceremoniously.
I’m very glad that this year, after the celebrations in big cities, Zagreb and Dubrovnik, Festival Water-Spring of life will be held in Vodice. Through images and music, the artists will remind us of the beauty of the landscape, the need to preserve it and pay attention to it, to enjoy its purity and leave it clean for future generations.
There is no more appropriate place for holding such celebration than here in Vodice, the city that owes its existence to a liquid which means life.
